Satellite evidence of unequal basin-scale recovery from severe droughts
Published in National Science Review, 2026
Satellite observations show that water storage recovery following severe droughts is widespread but highly unequal across large river basins worldwide. Persistent deficits are most common in dryland basins, where limited water availability, recurrent droughts, and intensive human water use hinder recovery.
